We joined UST about 10 years ago because we compared the state tax rate to UST’s rate. We have stayed with the Trust ever since and have continued to save. Currently, the state tax rate is 2.745% but through UST we are currently experiencing a rate of 1.504%. Overall, we have saved a total of $103,253.”

Through our own cost-analysis, we have determined that Unemployment Services Trust is the preferred option for saving on unemployment costs. Since joining UST in 1996, we have experienced $129,077 in total savings. That’s an average of $12,908 in savings each year. TALX, the claims monitor, provides training and guidance that can’t be measured in dollar amounts. But we know their advice has prevented costly unemployment errors.”
- Crider Health Center, Inc.
With your help, we have reduced our unemployment rate [by 4%] in the past year, which represents a savings of approximately $55,000.”
- BRIDGES, Inc.
The TALX online unemployment training was great. I’d certainly recommend others take advantage of this program.”

PEAK Parent Center appreciates this review process that UST goes through annually to reward agencies for positive business practices. The refunds that we have received have been a great benefit.”
- PEAK Parent Center
We appreciate your services and excellent care of our funds in your Trust. We work hard to keep our costs down and like most not-for-profits, any experience credit refunds we receive help us serve more clients and bring needed help in our community.”
- DePelchin Children’s Center
Thank you for the most efficient way that you have operated the Trust in the past. It is comforting to know that we can depend on the Trust to keep our best interests in mind.”

Washburn Center for Children, a 125-year-old children’s agency in Minnesota, has been a member of UST for more than 25 years. Washburn is the leading resource in Minnesota serving children with social, emotional, and behavioral problems. The children seen at Washburn often arrive feeling beaten down and discouraged but leave with hope, the opportunity for increased success in life and the chance for a happier childhood. Washburn estimates it has saved more than $100,000 through its participation in UST. This is money that has gone directly to supporting its work with troubled children.
Steve Lepinski, Washburn Center for Children’s executive director has served as a Trustee for UST for the past 13 years. He states, ‘The savings generated by UST are like a large foundation that has provided millions of dollars to nonprofits across the country to support their organizational missions.’”

Switching to Unemployment Services Trust immediately saved me money as my initial rate was significantly lower than what I had been paying to the state. The year-end reports that total the amount of claims and the amount I have paid provide me with a clear understanding of why my rate goes up or down. I have been impressed with the responsiveness of the staff when I have questions or concerns. Moving to the Unemployment Services Trust has been a very positive move for my agency.”

The partnership between Catholic Charities and UST and TALX creates a perfect relationship with which to fully manage unemployment costs in the non-profit environment. UST and TALX demonstrate they are efficient, effective, and have expert knowledge in the unemployment arena. During this time of economic uncertainty, I feel comfortable that a potential large cost expense item is being well managed on behalf of Catholic Charities. I am pleased to be part of this successful partnership.”

The Institute for Financial Literacy joined the Unemployment Services Trust (UST) in 2008. We did so knowing that participation in UST would allow us to take advantage of the federal option allowing nonprofits to only pay for actual unemployment claims instead of a tax for each of our employees. We have found UST to be an effective program for reducing our administrative costs, gaining access to resources to help us manage our unemployment claims and ultimately giving us the opportunity to make our money work on our behalf.”

The level of service I receive from my TALX representatives, Wallene and John, is outstanding. They are knowledgeable about our claims; they give me clear, accurate information and are responsive, efficient and consistent in their efforts on the YWCA’s behalf. I know I can rely on them to keep our claims charges in line.”
- YWCA of Minneapolis
